Under the Mersey Moon - November 2009

Merseyside singer songwriter Jimmy Rae releases an inspiring new anthem for Liverpool

This year Wirral Autistic Society has it’s own Christmas record out!!!!

Under the Mersey Moon is the new single from Merseyside-based singer songwriter Jimmy Rae released on Monday 23nd November on Matchbox Recordings, distributed through Universal.

Written and performed by Jimmy Rae, the song is an epic celebration of the enduring spirit of Liverpool and its people down the years, through good times and bad.

Clocking in at almost six minutes long with a dramatic orchestral arrangement by John Paul Cumberlidge, it bucks the current trend for three minute disposable pop, as did Jimmy’s critically acclaimed album Deliverance, released in June of this year.

“It’s a big song for a big city and once I got started the lyrics just kept flowing” says Jimmy, who was signed to RCA Records in the 80s and only recently returned to songwriting and recording after a 20 year break. “I’m incredibly proud of it as a piece of work and the reactions it’s been getting from people have been overwhelming, really.”

Two thirds of the proceeds from the single, which retails at £3, will be shared between two local charities, Liverpool Unites and, of course, Wirral Autistic Society.

The CD, which has been picking up strong local airplay, includes an additional track ‘One Good Reason’ taken from Jimmy’s album ‘Deliverance’.

Copies are available from the Merseyshop, within the Liverpool Echo building on Old Hall Street, Liverpool (Tel: 0845 143 0001) as well as by mail order from www.merseyshop.com and from Jimmy’s own website: www.jimmyrae.co.uk. It can be also be downloaded from iTunes, Play.com and a range of other websites.

“We are currently lining up a number of other local outlets where people can buy the song” says Jimmy, “and I’ll be keeping an up to date list of them on my website. I’m hoping people will want to buy copies for homesick relatives abroad too as it’s a very evocative song that I think they’ll relate to and it’s also got a really beautiful illustration on the cover by local artist Jim Fleming.”

Jimmy will be performing the song for the first time at the 21st annual Scouseology Celebration at Liverpool’s Crowne Plaza Hotel on Friday 20 November and again at the Wirral Autistic Society Christmas Concert at Eaton Park, Cheshire on 8 December and the Liverpool Echo Carol Concert at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral on 11 December.

Jimmy’s CD is also available from Rick Myers at
